Happy ALOHA Friday, peeps! Today I decided that I would indulge myself in some of life's treats!
I started off my day by making a stack of my favorite pancakes - Kodiak Cakes. Although pancakes are not the most healthiest carbs to have, I try to make the best of it. I use Kodiak Cakes Flapjack and Waffle Mix which is ALL NATURAL!
It's made of whole wheat, oat and honey. All I do is mix it with water and voila! Yummy pancakes! What I do to make it even more healthy is add a couple of heaping scoops
Organic Sprouted Golden Flax (from Costco).
I also call it my "Magic Dust." Why is SPROUTED flax better than milled," you ask? Well, it has approximately 30% higher Omega-3!!! Which is essential in supporting good heart health, normal blood cholesterol and healthy blood pressure.
There's more reasons why you should chooses sprouted flax over milled but I'll leave that for another post.
Okay, where was I...Oh yes!
So, on those pancakes I poured on THE REAL KINE Maple Syrup. No brown glass bottle shaped as a woman or plastic bottle with a log cabin on it is in my cupboard. Only the REAL thing!
As I relished every pancake morsel, I received a call from one of my closest friends and mentors, Arna. She wanted to see if I wanted to join her and another girlfriend out for a quick excursion to Kane'ohe Bay! After many hours of processing and feeling my rump getting wider and wider from too much computer work this month, I thought this was an AWESOME idea! I quickly said, "THANK YOU and YES!!!"
I love being spontaneous!
The next thing you know, I'm in the car on my way to Hakipu'u!!!
The weather wasn't looking too garanz...
No matters!!! Just being out in nature is a good way to get in touch with LIFE!
I was so happy that Na'u could enjoy herself with her canine cousin, Maka.
So here we are, on our way to the Sand Bar as we pass Hokule'a Beach, to our surprise we see...HOKULE'A herself!!!
OMG!!! This is soooooooo exciting!!!! I have always had a deep respect for this famous Polynesian Voyaging Canoe and her crew. I had the great pleasure of meeting
Nainoa Thompson several times.
He is such an extraordinary and beautiful man with the deepest knowledge of the constellation and his culture.
As Arna slowly circled around Hokule'a from a distance, I was so in awe of her...most especially her rudder!
My thoughts took me to all the places she's been to and where she will go after she is pau resting. I thought about how canoes played such a significant role in ancient Hawai'i...
and the role they have today....
Seriously, what an awesome and unexpected encounter to have on this ALOHA Friday!!!
After getting over our sighting of Hokule'a and finally arriving at the Sand Bar, I got into the water.
How cleansing, refreshing and TRICKY!!! Today, the tide was a little higher for my five foot self to handle. And not to mention the onslaught of waves that kept relentlessly hitting me!
NOTE TO SELF: Bring water wings!!!
What is with being in the ocean and sun that makes one crave for fried foods?!?!?! You know, like KFC's Original Recipe Chicken like when I was a kid???? Surprisingly, after our time in the ocean, I had a craving for....
and...
I KNOW!!!! UGH!!! I rarely ever eat at McD's unless it's a total emergency. I think the last time I had anything from McDonald's was two or three years ago!!! If you haven't seen "Super Size Me" then you need to watch it. That'll cure any kind of fast food fetish you have!
Anyways, I decided that just for today I would give in and indulge myself to a nice helping of McDonald's. It was soooooo ono!!!!
I want to send a big MAHALO to my gal pals, Arna and Maile, for inviting me to join them on such a rare and fun indulgence this afternoon.
And to Ku for the use of this awesome vintage jacket so I wouldn't freeze my butt off on their boat!!!
Enjoy the last weekend of September, peeps!!! Work hard, now PLAY HARD!!!!
